As rent regulation gains popularity across the country, the film follows the stories of small property owners in New York who struggle to hold onto their family homes. At the center of “Shabbification: The Story of Rent Control†is Bryan, whose dreams of providing a better life for his family are made impossible because of the state's hold on his property. As the story unfolds, it reveals the city's own battle, where vacant apartments and the disincentive for renovations have led to a broader urban decay.
